2017 wrap up – Adventure Motorcycle Equipment

Another year has gone and I have to admit that I have enjoyed more superb adventure riding along with most people that are reading this. I have shared stories and experiences with many adventure riders and learned that the tall tales told (bench racing aside!) are usually true.

I would just like to thank you for your patronage and stories that we share. As always 2017 has been an interesting year and I wish you all the best for 2018!
Reflecting on adventure riding made me think of a conversation I had with a friend in late 2017. My non-motorcycle-riding friend asked me, “Why do you like adventure riding so much?”. My usual reply was, “If I have to explain it, you will never understand.” But I sat back and tried to think of an analogy that he could relate to. I explained, “When you’re up on the ‘pegs of your adventure motorcycle and everything is in tune (rider, motorcycle and Mother Nature working as one), it’s like you’re flying just above the ground. Nothing can go wrong and no terrain is a problem. Everything happens in slow motion and you flow through the scenery soaking up Mother Nature. Daylight hours run out and you want more terrain to explore!”. My friend smiled and I knew he didn’t understand. However, my daughter who heard the conversation and rides with me on her TTR90, said, “People who don’t ride don’t understand, do they Dad?”. I laughed and gave her a quick cuddle and said, “Maybe one day they will!”

Adventure riding is a great hobby enjoyed by good-natured motorcyclists. I’ve met many new people this year and been riding with a number of groups. I hope you all keep riding and keep exploring in 2018. We are definitely spoilt for choice here in Australia with a large land mass with a small population!
