Notice it’s a ‘Rambler’, not a ‘Scrambler’

British magazine site www.mcnews.com has reported the development partnership between BMW and Touratech as follows…

“Weighing in at 200kg, this super lightweight 1200cc machine is a liquid-cooled boxer and although a ‘concept’ bike, the Touratech team say it’s ‘ready-to-go’. See it in action over the tough terrain of the Azores, Portugal, here:

“Touratech have combined the engine-gearbox unit from the R1200R Roadster with the rear swingarm and shaft drive from the GS, giving the concept a ‘directly responsive, high-torque drive system with 125bhp’. The chassis on this model is fitted with a conventional fork as standard, as opposed to the GS’ Telelever system.

“With a tank capacity of 18 litres, and minimalist enduro-like bodywork that looks decidedly slender compared to the curvaceous bulk of the GS, the Rambler is almost 50kg lighter, too.

“Touratech say the boxer is superbly stable, even at high speeds, and the transformation is fabricated using ‘super-lightweight aluminium tube in conjunction with carbon fibre, a titanium exhaust system, and a powerful but lighter lithium-ion battery’.

“Other features include a slim enduro-like seat, a lightweight single-disc front brake and ABS.

“The prototype also comes in two colour schemes: BMW’s original red, white and blue and Touratech’s trademark black, grey and yellow.”
