Outback Motorcycle Adventures News – Summer ’19/20

Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter. It’s been a little while since our last update so please read on to find out what’s been happening!….

Vroomy’s Desert Crossing

Last month, Vroomy decided that it would be fun to see if he could ride from Alice Springs to Birdsville via the French Line – solo & unsupported – in 1 DAY!

After giving the 690 a service and some new Dunlops, he departed Alice at 5.30 am on the 17th October. 13 hours and 57 minutes later, after traveling 852.9km, he pulled up at the Birdsville Hotel for a beer….

For anyone that has ridden in this part of the world, you’d understand that this is quite an achievement! His Kit690 kitted KTM didn’t miss a beat and luckily, Michael didn’t bite the dust at all throughout the journey either.

“I reckon that for at least 7 hours of the nearly 14 I was riding, I was standing up in the attack position charging through the dunes. As it was near the end of the tourist season in the desert, the 4WD’s had really chopped up the sand and it was quite a rough ride”

Some Fast Facts About The Ride;

  • The bike can hold 32 litres of fuel and he carried another 7 litres in a RotopaX fuel cell. There was 4 litres left when he arrived in Birdsville…
  • He also had 7 litres of water in another RotopaX container and 3 litres in his backpack.
  • A Spot tracker was used to keep track of his progress. He also carried a satellite phone, a change of clothes and some other emergency tools, spares, sleeping equipment and food.
  • Alice Springs to Mt Dare took 3 hours and 25 minutes. He refuelled and had a feed at Mt Dare.
  • Mt Dare to Birdsville (via Dalhousie, French Line and QAA Line) took 10 hours and 32 minutes.

*Our 2020 Ultimate Simpson Crossing tours utilising the same route will take a bit longer than this to complete! We’ll spend some time taking in the sights, having some fun in the dunes and having a dip in Dalhousie Springs! If you’d like to join us, then check out the details below in our tour info section.

Our New Support Truck!

We’ve just taken delivery of our Isuzu 4×4 Tour Support Truck.

This truck will be the backbone to all of our tours in the future.

We are currently fitting it out with a fully enclosed tray that will carry everything we need to make your tour as comfortable as possible.

It can seat up to 4 passengers so if you want to bring a non-rider on one of our tours, then let us know and they can tag along and enjoy the scenery too!

Keep an eye on our social media posts as we keep you updated on the fitout.

2019 End of Season Trip

We recently headed off on our own adventure in the Victorian High Country.

Dave from Mt. Buller Motorcycle Adventures hosted us on a 6 day ride in terrain that we don’t usually get to ride!…

Massive hills, mud, snow, awesome forest single track, and about 4 million water bars – we had a ball.

Just don’t ask Vroomy about his drowned 350 after taking the wrong line through one of the many river crossings we encountered!….

We totally recommend Mt. Buller Motorcycle Adventures if you’re looking to do a tour in that region. Get in touch with them – you’ll have a great ride.

Product Spotlight – FLY Racewear

We’re wrapped with our association with FLY Racewear. Not only have we looked the part on all of our tours, but this gear is tough, long wearing and comfortable.

From the Lite Hydrogen kit pictured above, through to their more adventure orientated Patrol gear, we can thoroughly recommend their range of products to you when you are next looking for some new riding gear.

FLY have got you covered from your boots, right through to your helmet!

They have recently released their 2020 range – you can

download the catalogue here.
